Dead Man Walking

Friends and family HELLO!  I am now a week old in the mission field!

This week I was lucky enough to have my first zone conference. We met and heard from our mission president, President Larsen and his sweet wife and let me just tell you they are amazing! They are such a light and filled with so much love!

One of my favorite things so far about being on the mission in Salt Lake is that so many people know who we are. I can't tell you how many times a day no matter where we go that we hear  “Hi Sisters!" I love it! In fact, just today this older couple driving by waved to us and then stopped thier car in the middle of the road to give us this hand made blanket. She was the cutest! I'll be sure to attach a picture of this cute and very colorful little blanket lol. We hung it up on our wall :)

This morning for exercise we walked to the capital. It was so so pretty and it felt so good outside! We're too lucky!

Okay, now let me tell you Salt lake City has got some really weird people in it. Hence the subject dead man walking, lol. Let me explain. So one of our shifts this week was West gate which is where we sit in this "information booth" on the square answering questions and starting up tours. When we first got to our shift the sisters before us warned us that this man (probably in his late 50's) and his friend (a lot older than him who had long gray hair with like a pirate bandana around his head) had came to the booth and said some really interesting things. One being he would marry any of us sisters once we got back from our missions (despite the fact that he's probably 60). They also said he went on and on about his heart condition. Anyways they told us to look out for him but that he probably wouldn't come back so we should be okay. Well surprise he came back! We learned that apparently he recently died during surgery but then his heart miraculously started to work again (hence the dead man walking). He said that the reason he didn't die was because God told him he couldn't come into heaven yet because he wasn't baptized so he gave him another chance and let him live. Now he is on this hunt to find any Christian church (they're all true and right in his eye) that will let him get baptized. He says his time is short so he needed to act fast. We tried to help but despite our efforts this man did not understand that baptism wasn't just something that could happen over night. He also thought if went on a tour it would help him become a member. To make this long story shorter, security ended up talking to him and informing him that he was not able to get a tour and then reminded him that our purpose is not to find someone to marry. This is only one of many interactions with crazy people we see on square all the time. I love it and am thanful for the security the church has around the sisters.

Anyways, I'm having a good time here at Temple square and learning something new every day.

God is so so good even if sometimes its hard to see it!

Love you all!

Sister Mac
