Pioneer Day, Peru, & Photos!

Oh hey friends!

Well it's been another busy week here in good ole Salt Lake. Tons of people are coming to the square everyday meaning we stay super busy. It's the best!

Last Saturday we had this really cool opportunity to have this lesson with these elders and the people they're teaching in Peru! In this call there was a young mom and her daughter who recently both got baptized! And joining them was also her own mom who is deaf and doesn't know much about the church, which explains why the elders asked if we could be there. Now you're probably thinking "wait they're in Peru....wouldn't that be spanish sign language" and you would be right. Though the elders assured us that she knew some American Sign Language. They also said that because of where they are there are not a lot of resources and so it's likely that a lot of her signs are made up. All that aside, the lesson itself was precious and although I'm still not fully convinced she understood everything I signed, the spirit was so strong. At the end the elders bore their testimony and then invited the mom and daughter as well as Sister Morgan and I to share ours as well. Friends, it was SO tender. The little girl who had to be about 9 or 10 had the most pure and strong testimony of the church. As she was sharing, the elder who knew English was translating and towards the end he found himself emotional having a hard time telling what she had said last. When he was finally able to, he shared that the girl said that one day she wanted to serve a mission just like us in America. We were all so touched and so thankful to be a part of such a special lesson.

Tomorrow is July 24th also known as pioneer day! The reason this day is so special to the people here in Utah and to members of the church is because it's the day the pioneers arrived to the Salt Lake valley. Escaping a lot of religious persecution they finally arrived at a place in which they could freely come closer to God. This meant everything to them as they truly understood the importance of the restored gospel as well as had a deep rooted love for their Savior. So this morning we were able to watch a parade that celebrated them and their trek here. It's weird as we watched I found myself almost getting emotional just feeling so proud and so thankful for everything they endured. Pretty amazing to think some of my family members were among some of those faithful saints.

Anyways I miss you guys and hope you have a great rest of your week. Although not everyone has pioneer ancestors we do all have pioneer heritage and that's worth celebrating. So be sure to give your families big hugs and remember the efforts of those who have come before you. They're pretty cool I think :).

God is good!
